Mecbo Srl specializes in the design, construction and sale of all types of concrete pumps: stationary, wheeled, crawler-mounted, truck-mounted and cement mixer-mounted; for industrial pumping applications in the food, water purification, oil and land reclamation/clearing sectors.

Mecbo Srl was founded in 1972 by Bologna-born entrepreneur Giancarlo Musiani: his goal was to respond to a market demand for concrete pumping solutions that would play a strategic role in the growth of Italy’s construction industry.

Following the first single-cylinder pumps, the company became one of the first in the world to offer the market innovative S-valve twin-cylinder machines inside the concrete containment hopper. The firm immediately became a pivotal supplier of the all-new twin-cylinder pumping units to German and Swiss customers.

1974

In 1974 the first concrete mixer truck-mounted pump equipped with concrete pump and 16-metre high placing boom was launched.

During those years, an important partnership was formed with Antonelli Srl, which produces the placing booms installed on truck-mounted pumps.

1988

1988

In 1988, Mecbo designed and patented the ®PULSAR switching system, an innovative device for rotation of the S-valve, exclusively installed on machines produced and sold by Mecbo. Before long, the advantages and high performance of this system put Mecbo products on a level way above that of conventional pumping units.

That same year Mecbo designed and delivered the first crawler-mounted concrete pump. It was immediately in demand with – and acclaimed by – many drilling industry firms engaged in the construction of continuous flight auger (C.F.A.) piles. Subsequently, crawler-mounted pumps for general building sites use were developed on account of their outstanding manoeuvrability and versatility.

1990

During 1990 the ®PULSAR system was integrated into industrial pumping units. Pumping waste sludge from water purification plants also became a key area. The first BPL Pumping Bucket was built: this is a machine applied to an excavator arm that allows removal of settling sludge from both natural and artificial reservoirs.

Equally important was the GETTO, a highly popular wheeled machine equipped with a pumping unit with a maximum feed rate of 15m3/h and pressures of up to 70 bar: modern versions are still being manufactured today.

1991

The year 1991 saw the birth of a partnership – which continues to this day – with the Franco-Portuguese Agostinho family, owners of the Paris-based Inter Service Pompe, a leading player in the European concrete pumping sector.

Close collaboration between designer and user has resulted in extraordinary inventiveness. This has generated highly effective ideas, especially as regards the detailed workings of the machines.

1993

The year 1993 saw the arrival of an extremely versatile machine for small building sites, the ®Fattorino. A 1 m3 concrete mixer linked to a suitable pumping unit allows continuous concrete production and pumping. Many versions have been made over the years, each an improvement on the last.

Rewarding partnership projects with a major construction industry company continued, leading to the design of an extraordinary machine, the CRABO, a high-performance crawler-mounted pump with an Atlas placing boom. In the following years Mecbo would start producing a machine line – called Robotrack – exclusively of its own design with 16-33 m high booms.

During these years, numerous joint projects and partnerships would also see Mecbo technicians involved in developing highly complex equipment. For example, Mecbo worked on large-scale desalinisation plants in Kuwait for which the main contractor was Ansaldo Spa of Genoa.

2000

This new millennium has seen designers focus their efforts on the hoppers. Hoppers able to be opened both downwards and laterally appeared, characteristics that make final cleaning and maintenance (e.g. pumping piston replacement) easier.

Mecbo remained focused on satisfying strong market demand from an ever-growing industry. A good example of that commitment is seen in the refractory material pumps, which can also be equipped with planetary mixers.

2002

2002

The year 2002 saw the near-inevitable development of the ‘Robot-spritz‘, a small, powerful crawler-mounted shotcrete pump with an 8 m telescopic boom, the perfect complement to the other wheeled machines designed for the same purpose (GETTO SB, CAR SB).

The market boom of those years also motivated Mecbo to start producing its own placing booms. Hence the introduction of the 18 m and 23 m concrete mixer booms. For truck-mounted pumps Mecbo would later produce the 28 m and 37 m booms with both RZ and full Z folding.

2007

2007

While the 2007 recession caused a drop in sales, the company proved to be extremely resilient and continued investing in ideas and quality with success.

A Europe-wide proliferation of building renovation projects led to the development of the “SHUTTLE“, a line of machines with and without placing booms (the ‘City Pump’) mounted on small trucks, ideal for use in town centres, even historical areas where there is little room for manoeuvre.

2009

In 2009 the 24L, a concrete mixer placing boom, was introduced (named “Linear” on account of the very low first arm tilt angle).

Again in 2009, the new 42 m Mecbo with front X-stabilisation and rear stabiliser bar was introduced.

Today, Mecbo, together with its partners, is rising to the challenge posed by modern construction needs. Intelligent construction that meets strict criteria, with an eye to future eco-sustainability.

The quest for low consumption, the use of high quality resources, workforce well-being and ongoing support for new users in geographical areas where building is booming: these, then, are the values of a company intent on making the best of its most valuable asset – human resources.
